Natural Baker FAQ

How is The Natural Baker different then other products on the grocery shelf?

Many conventional dog treats contain artificial colors, flavors, and preservatives, meat and poultry by-products, and grains as fillers. The Natural Baker offers a premium quality of treats that you find in specialty stores: oven baked, 100% natural, no corn or soy, no artificial colors or preservatives, no added salt and no meat by-products. All natural ingredients that are good for your dog and ultimately your peace of mind. Simply natural, simply delicious dog treats.

Why is oven baked better then other cooking methods
Many treats and foods on the market today are extruded, which means that heavily mixed dough is pushed through an extruder at very high temperatures and is shaped and cooked at the same time. This method is much quicker and cheaper than oven baking but many vitamins and nutrients are lost in the process. By oven baking all our treats in controlled batches, The Natural Baker treats retain all those healthy nutrients and the flavor that comes from our delicious and healthy ingredients. And you can’t beat that oven-baked crunch!
Where are your products manufactured?
The Natural Baker treats are baked and packaged in the beautiful Okanagan Valley of British Columbia, Canada.
Do you use any meat by products in your recipes?

Our treats don’t contain any meat by-products.

Do your products include any peanut/nut in the ingredients?

Our Naturals Peanut Butter and our Colossal Mini Bone in P’Nut contain healthy, all natural peanut butter. Our other treats do not contain peanuts. We do follow strict cleaning protocols however if you or a family member has peanut allergies, please be aware that our facility does use peanut butter.

How are your treats preserved?
All of our treats are preserved naturally and contain no chemical additives like BHT, BHA, or ethoxyquin. We use a natural form of preservative called mixed tocopherols. Tocopherols are a natural antioxidant and Vitamin E source. Vitamin E is an antioxidant that retards the oxidation of other vitamins.
What is k-cal?
A Kcal (kilocalorie) is a unit of heat equal to 1000 calories. In pet nutrition, the larger unit kcal is used interchangeably with calories. On our treat packages, you’ll see us refer to kcal/kg and then the number of kcal/treat. ME or metabolizable energy refers to the calories that are actually used by your dog net of those expelled in his/her waste.
How many treats can I give my dog each day?
Pet obesity is a growing problem in North America. It’s important to regulate your dog’s caloric intake between food and treats plus provide plenty of fresh drinking water and exercise. Talk to your veterinarian about what calorie count is appropriate for your dog or puppy and then don’t forget to consider treats as part of their caloric intake. Always read the packaging for feeding guidelines.
